Your home should be more than just a place you go to at the end of the day to get some rest and recharge for the next day. You have to think of your home as your haven – a place where you can relax, be yourself, and be comfortable in your surroundings. This makes it all the more important for your interiors to be just the way you want them. You really do not have to go for expensive antique furniture, designer decor, and exotic tapestries. Sometimes, even simple new curtains for your house can dress up your interiors to create that cozy feeling you are looking for.
Choosing Color and Design
In choosing curtains, you have to take a few tips into consideration. The first thing, of course, would be color and design. You do not want curtains that are too bright for your interior color theme or those that have patterns and prints that clash with the rest of your other upholstery.
Choose a curtain color and design that complements the rest of your interior décor. Depending on whether or not you want your window to be a focal point, you can decide to make your curtains as neutral or as flashy as you desire. Make sure, however, that your choice of color and design is not going to be an eyesore.
Fabric Weight
The next thing that you have to consider is the weight of the fabric. Heavy tapestries do not always work to your advantage. They can weigh down the feeling in a room and make it stuffy. You have to exercise practicality in your choice of fabric. Heavier fabrics will also trap moisture in the house and contribute to the growth of molds and mildew. If you do prefer this type of material, you have to make sure that you schedule your maintenance and upkeep.
You have to take your curtains to the cleaners regularly to prevent dirt from accumulating on them and causing health problems to your family. If you do not want to have to deal with special care requirements, you can limit your choices to those that are made of lighter materials that are easier to care for and maintain.
Consider Costs
The last consideration would, of course, be the cost. In all probability, you would need several curtains for each room in your house. Take some measurements and find out how many curtains you need so you know what to shop for.
You can check out online stores for home accessories and furnishings to find out what options are available. When you find what you want, put the number of curtains you require in your shopping cart, fill out the payment and delivery form and wait for your curtains to be delivered to your doorstep. Dressing up your home with curtains has never been this convenient.

I have never likes curtains, except fluttery ones at a kitchen window. For the rest of the windows, I’ve always preferred shades (rather than blinds), but curtain-free. For some reason, curtains (especially heavy drapes in a living room) seem to make the room look smaller (IMO). But that’s just me!

I have never really seen blinds with curtains done very well. My problem with curtains are that they usually don’t last long during Alaska winters because they get “wet” due to all the snow and then rain in the summer time. However, very good tips.

I was not aware that heavy curtains cause those types of problems. I’m glad I just picked out light, airy curtains for our room. I have the rest of the house to do (we just moved), and I find it so hard with so many choices.
Thanks for the tips!

We have to use curtains because my husband works nights and needs it to be darker during the day. Aside from the great decoration for a room, they’re also cost effective when it comes to the energy bill.

Wow, I learned something new today. I never knew that the weight of curtains can bring down a room and make it seem stuffy. That’s pretty interesting. Now when I go curtain shopping, I will know what to look for. Thanks for the tips =)
